IPS Nathan Lecture 2019 World In Transition: Singapore S Future (Ips Nathan Lecture 0)

The Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) Nathan Lecture is an annual event that brings together thought leaders to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing Singapore. This year's lecture was delivered by Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for Social Policies, on the topic of "Singapore's Future: Adapting and Innovating for Success".

In his lecture, Mr Tharman highlighted the challenges that Singapore faces in the coming years, including the global economic slowdown, rising inequality, and the threat of climate change. He also stressed the importance of innovation and adaptation in order for Singapore to remain competitive in the global economy.

Mr Tharman identified three key areas where Singapore needs to focus its efforts:

Economic transformation: Singapore needs to continue to invest in research and development (R&D) and innovation, and to develop new industries and businesses.
Social cohesion: Singapore needs to strengthen its social safety net, and to promote inclusivity and equality.
Environmental sustainability: Singapore needs to take action to reduce its carbon emissions and to adapt to the effects of climate change.

Mr Tharman concluded his lecture by emphasizing the need for Singaporeans to work together to build a better future for our nation. He said, "We must continue to be a nation of pioneers, always looking for new ways to improve ourselves and our society. We must also be a nation of inclusivity, where everyone has a chance to succeed. By working together, we can build a Singapore that is prosperous, just, and sustainable for generations to come."

The IPS Nathan Lecture is an important platform for discussing the challenges and opportunities facing Singapore. This year's lecture provided valuable insights into the future of our nation and the need for us to adapt and innovate in order to remain successful.
