Tupac Shakur, also known as 2Pac, was an American rapper, songwriter, actor, and poet. He is considered by many to be one of the most influential figures in hip hop history, and his music continues to be celebrated and studied today.
Early Life
Tupac Amaru Shakur was born on June 16, 1971, in East Harlem, New York City. His mother, Afeni Shakur, was a member of the Black Panther Party, and his father, Billy Garland, was a Black Panther activist who was killed before Tupac was born. Tupac's stepfather, Mutulu Shakur, was also a Black Panther activist who was later convicted of robbery and murder.
Tupac's family moved to Baltimore, Maryland, when he was a child. He attended the Baltimore School for the Arts, where he studied drama and poetry. Tupac also began rapping at a young age, and he quickly gained recognition for his skills.
Music Career
In 1991, Tupac signed a recording contract with Interscope Records. He released his debut album, 2Pacalypse Now, in 1991. The album was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to establish Tupac as one of the most popular rappers in the world.
Tupac released a string of successful albums throughout the 1990s, including Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z. (1993),Me Against the World (1995),and All Eyez on Me (1996). His music was known for its raw and emotional lyrics, which often addressed social and political issues.
Acting Career
In addition to his music career, Tupac also had a successful acting career. He appeared in several films, including Juice (1992),Poetic Justice (1993),and Gridlock'd (1997).
Tupac's acting skills were praised by critics, and he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Juice.
Death
Tupac was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada, on September 13, 1996. He was 25 years old.
The circumstances surrounding Tupac's death are still shrouded in mystery. There have been many theories about who killed him, but no one has been convicted of the crime.
