The Mask

I wear a mask every day,

To hide my true self from the world.

I pretend to be happy,

When I'm really sad.

I pretend to be confident,

When I'm really scared.

But who am I, really?

When I take off the mask,

Who is left?

Without the mask,

I am lost.

I do not know who I am,

Or what I want from life.

The mask is a part of me now,

And I am afraid to take it off.

The Pretender

I am a pretender.

I pretend to be someone I'm not,

Because I'm afraid of who I really am.

I pretend to be strong,

When I'm really weak.

I pretend to be happy,

When I'm really sad.

I pretend to be confident,

When I'm really scared.

I am a pretender,

And I am tired of pretending.

I want to be myself,

Even if it means being alone.

The Other Me

There is another me,

A me that I hide from the world.

This other me is wild and free,

And she doesn't care what anyone thinks.

I am envious of this other me,

Because she is everything I am not.

She is strong,

And she is confident,

And she is happy.

I wish I could be more like her,

But I am afraid.

I am afraid of what people will think,

And I am afraid of being rejected.

So I hide my other me away,

And I pretend to be someone I'm not.

The Real Me

Who am I, really?

Am I the person I show the world,

Or am I the person I hide away?

I am both, and neither.

I am a complex and contradictory creature,

And I am constantly changing.

I am the person I show the world,

But I am also the person I hide away.

I am the pretender,

And I am the real me.

And I am still trying to figure out who that is.
