History

The Geto Boys were formed by rapper Bushwick Bill, rapper and producer Scarface, and rapper Willie D. The group's name is a play on the term "ghetto boys", which was used to describe young men from poor neighborhoods in Houston. The Geto Boys' early music was heavily influenced by the city's street culture and the group's own experiences with poverty and violence.

The Geto Boys' debut album, Making Trouble, was released in 1988. The album was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to establish the group as one of the leading voices in hip-hop. The Geto Boys' follow-up album, Grip It! On That Other Level, was even more successful, and it spawned the hit single "Mind Playing Tricks on Me".

The Geto Boys continued to release successful albums throughout the early 1990s. However, the group's career was derailed in 1995 when Bushwick Bill was shot in the eye by a crack dealer. Bill survived the shooting, but he lost the use of his eye. The Geto Boys broke up shortly after, but they reunited in 2005.
